Bali Water Taxi Network 2027

Bali, Indonesia — Bali is set to introduce a new water taxi network from 2026, offering international visitors a faster and more efficient way to travel between key areas across the island. The initiative, led by the Ministry of Transportation the Republic of Indonesia, represents a significant step towards improving mobility and easing traffic congestion in Bali’s busiest tourism zones.

With an estimated investment of Rp 1.21 trillion (approximately USD 75 million), the project aims to provide a seamless alternative to road transport—particularly valuable for travellers navigating tight schedules, whether for leisure, business, or events.

One of the most anticipated routes will connect Bandara Internasional I Gusti Ngurah Rai—Bali’s main international gateway—with the vibrant coastal area of Canggu, known for its beach clubs, dining scene, and growing number of boutique resorts and event venues. Once operational, the journey is expected to take around 30 minutes by sea, compared to the current 1–2 hours by road, depending on traffic conditions.

"The project forms part of a broader vision to integrate land, sea, and air transport, creating a more convenient and sustainable travel experience across the island."

— Dudy Purwagandhi, Minister of Transportation

The development will include essential marine infrastructure, such as breakwaters, to ensure safe and reliable operations in Bali’s dynamic coastal conditions. The technical planning phase is currently underway, with PT ASDP Indonesia Ferry (Persero) leading the preparation of the Detailed Engineering Design.

Construction is scheduled to commence in August 2026, with completion expected by July 2027. Trial operations are also planned as part of the rollout.

For international visitors, the water taxi promises not only to reduce travel time but also to offer a more scenic and enjoyable way to explore Bali’s coastline. As the island continues to evolve as a leading global destination for holidays, events, and business travel, this new transport option is set to enhance both convenience and the overall visitor experience.
